Cultivate: Knitting the Beauty of Nature
Dee Hardwicke & Jonna Helin
In Cultivate, Dee Hardwicke and Jonna Helin come together to celebrate the beauty of everyday simplicity through the art of knitting. Featuring 20 timeless patterns, this collection blends Dee’s botanical scarves — rich with nature-inspired motifs — and Jonna’s effortless, elegant garments designed to last.
In their first collaboration, Dee and Jonna invite you to cultivate inspiration from the world around you, creating knitwear that is both simple and profoundly beautiful.
Jonna Helin is the creative soul behind Laine Publishing, with 25 years of experience in the publishing industry. Raised in a family of crafters, she grew up listening to the rhythmic clicking of knitting needles, the soundtrack of her life. For Jonna, knitting is a sanctuary, offering peace and calm from the demands of daily life and soothing her busy mind.
She feels most at home in her cabin nestled in a remote Finnish forest, where the stars shine brightly against the dark winter sky, bringing light to the coldest nights. Yet she also loves getting lost in the bustling streets of London, Paris, New York and Tokyo. These contrasts blend harmoniously in her designs, which embody both the natural beauty of the wilderness and the vibrance of urban life.
A firm believer in the power of honesty and simplicity, Jonna creates knits that endure through time and style — pieces that are as easy to knit as they are to wear.
Dee Hardwicke is a British artist, designer and knitter whose work is deeply inspired by Britain’s ever-changing landscapes and cottage gardens.
Her sketchbooks serve as a visual diary of her life, capturing the enchanting details of nature. Each page overflows with drawings, watercolours and pressed leaves, translating the beauty of wildflower meadows, drifting clouds and butterfly wings into her distinctive nature-inspired knits. Having knitted since her teenage years, Dee loves turning her sketches into timeless pieces of wearable art that celebrate the union of creativity, craft and practicality.
Her creativity spans multiple mediums, from knitting to collaborations with esteemed partners like the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the National Trust, where her artistic vision is brought to life through beautiful flooring, tableware and stationery.
